iPhone Duo: Apple’s First Fold-able is Brilliant, Heavy and Expensive

Apple’s October surprise came in form of new gadgets, Notable one being the iPhone duo to Apple’s first fold-able phone. This happened during their event, themed surprise and the Shine ‘, which also marked John Ternus’s first keynote address as CEO.

Some of the main features of the double-screened device include:

  • 5.4 inches inner screen and 7.8 outer screen with a 5.2mm thickness, making it slim and sleek.
  • Runs on the A20 Pro chip (same as the iPhone 18 Pro),12GB RAM, Touch ID instead of Face ID, and supports only eSIM.
  • There are two 48mp rear cameras and a 12mp selfie camera on the outer screen, although there is no missing telephoto.
  • The pricing is where the catch is, as the duo is now officially the most expensive iPhone. In Australia it’s retailing at A$ 3,499 for 256GB, A$3,899 for 512GB, A$4,699 for 1TB and A$5,899 for 2TB.

Reviews

So far, most of the reputable reviewers have given it a decent bill of health despite some of them being skeptical. Even the more conservative reviewers like the Verge gave it a 7/10, while the likes of Engadget gave it 8.8 out of 10. The critics, however, noted that there was no major difference from the iPad. One important thing to note, however, is that AppleCare confirmed a display issue affecting a small number of units, and users have been advised to contact them for replacement.

Who should purchase it?

This is for those who love to live in the iOS ecosystem but felt left behind by the fold-able wave. It’s now arguably the best-built fold-able phone on the market. Many reviewers expect a lighter second generation with improved cameras and Face ID, so patient buyers might be rewarded.
